The research areas of the institute focus on the one hand on the design of forestry inventory and planning approaches, and on the development of steering instruments for forestry enterprises. At the same time, forest and environmental policy issues and forest economics issues are also addressed.

Forest ecosystem services

The research of the Chair of Forest Policy and the Economics of Forest Resources is based on a pronounced competence in the application of methods of social-empirical research, moderation and mediation in conflicts over the use of resources and methods of forest and environmental economics.
At the Chair of Forest Management Planning issues such as operational adaptations of sample-based inventory and planning approaches are developed while also laying the groundwork for the development of new business areas for forestry enterprises.
