The Department of Forest Sciences of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences is pleased to welcome all new students to Tharandt. The dates and further information on the start of studies for the individual degree programs can be found below.

Welcome ceremony Bachelor Forest Sciences 2025
The ceremonial welcome will take place
- on Wednesday 08.10.2025
- in lecture hall J1 (on the ground floor of the Judeich Building, Pienner Str. 19, Tharandt)
- from 13:30 to 15:00
Afterwards, the student council will organize the following program for you:
- Tree planting
- City and campus tour with all kinds of insider tips
- from 17:00 barbecue at the Cotta-Bau (Pienner Str. 8, Tharandt)
On 09.10. and 10.10. there will be some introductory events. There you will also find out how to register for the modules in the first semester. You only have to register for the modules after the information event on 10.10.25. You will find the schedule for this week here.
The regular courses will begin on 13.10.2025.

The matriculation ceremony is the central welcome event for all first-year students at TU Dresden. This event is part of the Welcome Day. We will welcome you on October 9, 2025 in the Auditorium Center.
A few weeks after the start of university, a highlight awaits you: the "Erstipirsch". You will find out when it will take place this year in good time. Further information will follow during everyday university life. Let it be said: "We (student council, editor's note) are already really looking forward to it!"
Welcome for all Master's degree programs in the Department of Forest Sciences 2025
The ceremonial welcome for all first-year students of the three Master's degree programs in Tharandt will take place
- on Monday, 13.10.2025
- in lecture hall H1 (on the 1st floor, main building, Pienner Str. 8, Tharandt)
- from 12:30 to 13:30
Afterwards you will receive specific information about your degree program from 13:30 to 14:30:
- M.Sc. Forest Sciences in H1
- M.Sc. Wood Science and Technology in H5
- M.Sc. Tropical Forestry in C2 (Cotta-Bau)
From 2:30 p.m. we invite all first-year students of the Master's programs to a joint coffee break in lecture hall H3.
Please register for the compulsory modules of the first semester in SELMA from October 4th.
