"Medial discourses on cellular agriculture in Germany"
(in cooperation with the Universidade Federal do Paraná in Curitiba/Brazil and the Universiteit van Amsterdam in Amsterdam/Netherlands)

Cellular agriculture is a global research field with the aim to provide nutrients to the population by producing animal products from cell cultures. While currently mainly small quantities are produced in pilot projects, a large number of start-up companies have already established themselves, competing for investments and orders with different narratives (e.g. reduction of greenhouse gas emissions). This topic is currently only sporadically covered in print and online media.
In the context of a research cooperation with the Universidade Federal do Paraná in Curitiba/Brazil and the Universiteit van Amsterdam in Amsterdam/Netherlands, we are looking for a student who will conduct a qualitative (discourse) analysis for selected print and online media (incl. videos) in the context of a master's or state examination thesis on the above-mentioned topic. The thesis is situated in the context of the project "Protein Matters" funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation (see https://proteinmatters.org/) and should be written in German or English. The results of the work will be compared with similar projects in Curitiba and Amsterdam and will be used to plan further research.
We are looking for a:n student:n with
- Interest in the topic area of cellular agriculture,
- interest in qualitative methods and document analysis (text/image/film),
- good to very good knowledge of English
If interested, please contact Dr. Frank Meyer (frank.meyer1@tu-dresden.de).
