"The Case of Hypezig" - New open access paper on Leipzig's club culture published
The Chair of Human Geography has published a new scientific paper that develops the results of a final thesis by Lisa-Marie Rudolph. The publication deals with Leipzig's club culture and was published in the geographical journal "Berichte. Geography and Regional Studies". Research Associates of the Chair, Peter Rothe and Michael Krell, were involved in the publication. The publication is open access and can be accessed online free of charge via this link .
The article deals with the following specific topic:
"Since the Covid-19 pandemic, club culture has been confronted with a variety of challenges that have extended to a widely postulated "club death". With the help of a series of qualitative interviews using Leipzig as a case study, we show how social crises are negotiated within club culture. Using a relational concept of place, we analyze how clubs become places of everyday subjectivation that are charged with meaning in various ways for members of the scene. As a result of our study, we discuss the crisis-like effects of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the debates within the scene about safe spaces and the Middle East conflict using our conceptual approach."
