"Normalization paths of the local far-right" - Lecture by Dr. Valentin Domann

On Wednesday, June 04 at 16:45, Dr. Valentin Domman from the Humboldt University of Berlin will speak at the Geosciences Colloquium at TU Dresden (HÜL/S186). Dr Valentin Domann will speak on the topic of "Normalization paths of local right-wing radicalism":

While the "firewall" to the radical right continues to be invoked in national political debates, a progressive normalization of right-wing patterns of interpretation and local party cadres can be seen in many places at the local level. The lecture presents the results of a multi-year qualitative longitudinal study that identifies specific local processes of change under the influence of a strengthening AfD. They show different normalization paths and effects of the party and its ideology, which are conditioned by specific spatial conditions. Against this background, a geography of the radical right will be outlined and its potentials and limits put up for discussion.
