Presentation at the Spanish Congress on Urban Geography
Field Trip to Benidorm
From June 9–13, 2026, the 18th Congress of Spanish Urban Geography took place in Alicante and Cartagena (Coloquio de Geografía Urbana). Under the overarching theme “GOVERNANCE AND PUBLIC POLICY: TERRITORIAL COHESION, URBAN REGENERATION, AND HOUSING,” approximately 150 researchers from predominantly Spanish-speaking countries discussed and presented their latest research.
Marcus Hübscher presented his study (in collaboration with Maximilian Heinke) on the regulation of short-term rentals, such as Airbnb. The paper examines the networking process among major European cities that are striving for greater influence at the level of European legislation and are already seeing initial successes (such as the legislative amendment on transparency in short-term rentals).
The conference takes place every two years and serves as the central platform for exchange in the field of Spanish-language urban geography.
