New ESA project for the observation of vegetation fires
The group for environmental remote sensing leads a new international research project of the European Space Agency (ESA) to observe vegetation fires. In the project, we will use data mainly from the Sentinel satellites Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-5p to quantify properties of the land surface before a fire, to monitor the development of single fires, and to estimate trace gas emissions from fires.
The project is a cooperation between the junior professorship in environmental remote sensing of TU Dresden, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and Cardiff University. The project belongs to the new Carbon Science Cluster of ESA.
