This night has made us smarter - Dresden Science Night at the IPF

Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften am IPF
This year, the Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (IPF) once again presented itself at the Dresden Science Nihgt with colourful activities for young and old. To live up to this year's motto "The night that makes you smarter [Die Nacht, die schlauer macht]", all three professorships, including the Professorship of Photogrammetry, the Junior Professorship of Environmental Remote Sensing and the Junior Professorship of Geosensor Systems, devised a varied programme. Numerous experiments, activities and, in particular, demonstrations of the latest measurement technologies were waiting to be discovered by numerous visitors in the setting of the historic cultural monument.
On 20 June 2025 (18:00 to 22:00) in the foyer of the Hülße building, both photogrammetry enthusiasts and interested beginners were given the opportunity to go on an exploratory tour through the methods of optical 3D measurement and 4D environmental monitoring and gain practical insights. The following programme activities took place in beautiful summer weather:
- Exhibition of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles)
- Opportunity to scan objects using a triangulation scanner
- Opportunity to interact with various sensors, e.g. a thermal camera, a laser scanner and a seismograph
- Presentation of current research projects at the institute
Exciting hands-on activities awaited the younger guests, including a game on AI-based gesture recognition.
We are delighted that we were able to spend this special, science-focussed night of the year together with you at our institute and would like to thank you for the interesting discussions, enriching impulses and numerous opportunities for exchange.
