APIS
APIS - Quantification of uncertainties of parameters and boundary conditions in the simulation results of environmental information systems
  Duration:
  01/09 -12/10
  Coordinator:    Prof.
     Dr.-Ing. Peter-Wolfgang Gräber,
  Partners:        Dr.-Ing.
Oliver Kemmesies, K&P Ingenieurgesellschaft für Wasser und
  Boden mbH, Gunzenhausen
Funding:
BMWiThe aim of the project is the development
of innovative procedures and methods, in order to quantify
uncertainties in the parameters and the choice of boundary
conditions in the calculation results of environmental
information systems. Such systems are usually computer models,
which compute concrete numerical values. In the best case
additional sensitivity and scenario analyses are carried out,
to identify the parameters and boundary conditions with the
greatest influence on the simulation results. Additional
"verbal knowledge" is usually not integrated into the
simulation, since it cannot be described as a numerical
  value.
State-of-the-art mathematical methods as well as artificial
intelligence techniques shall be applied in the research
project, which have significant advantages compared to common
Monte-Carlo-methods in terms of knowledge processing and
  simulation runtime.
Based on the results of this research project a software
implementing the developed techniques shall be written. This
will improve the competitive capability of the project partner
and will create two new positions there.
