test hall
For technical experiments on small and medium scale, the Institute for Groundwater Management has access to the common test hall of the Department of Hydro Sciences, situated right next to the offices. The hall in total has an area of 50 m x 10 m and a height of 7 m and is equipped with access to various gases (e.g. O2, CO2, N2), distilled water and pressured air. A gantry crane (up to 3 t) allows the setup of experiments on a similar scale as in the field, with better control on structure and boundary conditions. The air exhaust permits the research on contaminated or hazardous material.
The test hall offers:
- a degassing plant for tap or distilled water.
- an large-scale experimental tank for experiments under saturated or unsaturated conditions (3 m x 2 m x 1.2 m)
- one medium-scale tank, made of glass (1.5 m x 1 m x 0.1 m) and two medium-scale tanks, made of acrylic glass (1 m x 0.7 m x 0.2 m).
- the VISLab on geohydraulics, with demonstratives physical models about
- confined/unconfined aquifers
- heterogeneous groundwater flow
- hydraulic conductivity
- "Flow-to-Wells"
- "Capillary barrier"
