Invitation to two international guest lectures on groundwater dating

Groundwater dating
Dear colleagues
Dear students,
To manage groundwater resources sustainably, we need a sound understanding of how old groundwater is and how quickly it renews itself. As part of our initiative to establish a groundwater dating laboratory at our faculty, we are delighted to welcome two internationally renowned guests to give lectures on this topic:
Friday, May 9, 11:10 a.m. (Lecture Hall HSZ/403/H), Prof. Grant Ferguson (University of Saskatchewan, Darcy Lecturer in 2025) will give a lecture with the title:
"Deep Groundwater and Deep Time"
This is about regional groundwater flows in the deep underground with large time scales. Among other things, the lecture will highlight their role in CO₂ storage, geochemical and microbiological processes and methodological challenges in the investigation of such systems.
Friday, July 4, 11:10 a.m. (lecture hall to be announced), Prof. Bayani Cardenas (University of Texas at Austin, Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lecturer in 2025) will give a lecture with the title:
"Insights on groundwater renewability from age and residence time analysis"
The results of international research collaborations on the global age distribution and renewability of groundwater will be presented. The focus will be on the importance of age data for sustainable water management and the assessment of resource renewal.
Both presentations will address central aspects of groundwater dating and offer valuable impulses in the field of groundwater dating and sustainable groundwater management.
We cordially invite you to attend the presentations and take the opportunity to exchange ideas with our guests.
Yours sincerely
Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartmann
