IGW PhD student receives "Young Karst Researcher Prize" at EuroKarst 2024
Every two years, the Eurokarst Conference brings together karst researchers from all over the world to stimulate scientific debate on the latest developments in the field of karst research. This year it was finally time again and so the Eurokarst2024 took place from June 10 - 14, 2024 in Rome (Italy). This year, a total of seven members of our Institute made their way to Rome to present their latest research results and host exciting workshops on karst modeling. The conference was a complete success with stimulating discussions, insightful presentations and many new (and old) social contacts! As a particularly successful conclusion to the conference, one of our PhD students, Nane Weber, was even awarded the Young Karst Researcher Prize 2024. After this successful week, we can hardly wait to attend the Eurokarst conference in Neuchâtel in two years!
The IGW team participated and contributed to the following program:
Workshops:
"Transport karst modelling approaches in the saturated and unsaturated zone" - Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartmann
"MODFLOW CFP, its implementation in Python CFPy and its coupling to PyKasso" - Dr. Thomas Reimann
Oral presentations:
"Global estimation of drainage characteristics in karst landscapes" - Nane Weber
"Development and application of the hybrid modelling approach by combining process-based and machine learning models for karst groundwater systems" - Dr. Cenk Sezen
"Understanding mass transfer mechanism between karst conduit and matrix: A critical review of mass exchange in karst water resources" - Kübra Özdemir Calli
"The WoKaS-Iso Database: workflow for a global compilation of d18O and d2H records in cave drip water and karst springs for enhanced understanding of karst systems" - Yining Zang
"Regional-scale groundwater modeling, focusing on boundary inflow and impact assessment of managed aquifer recharge in karst systems" - Marcus Genzel
