Meeting of the DAAD scholarship holders from Sub-Saharan Africa in Bonn, 2016
Our newest colleague Lydia (second from left in the photo above) attended for two days the Orientation Seminar for DAAD scholarship holders from Sub-Saharan Africa. The seminar was held at Gustav-Stresemann-Institut in Bonn starting on 27th October 2016 at about 2:30 pm. Present in the programme were the Head of Section ST 32, Scholarship Programme Africa, Cay Etzold, Caroline Wiegand (programme coordinator for Ghana) and other personnel of DAAD. An overview of the composition and coverage of the scholarship was given by Mr Etzold. Scholarship holders were told to contact two of their supervisors for recommendation letters to be made part of their application for extension of their scholarships for next year. Scholarship holders were also tasked to update their PhD proposals (progress of work). Miss Wiegand discussed issues relating to Health Insurance and procedure for extension of Scholarship. An alumnus of DAAD from Uganda shared his experience of living in Germany as a student. There was a session for questions and suggestion. The day was crowned with dinner at about 6:30 pm.
On 28 October 2016, scholarship holders were taken through a workshop on “intercultural sensitization using examples of Africa and German cultural standards”. This was followed by Feedback and closing words. The two day programme was climaxed with a guided tour through the Museum “Haus der Geschichte”.
