Fieldwork on groundwater use and climate change in Ghana, June - September 2017
Within the framework of her doctoral studies, Lydia conducted a fieldwork in Ghana from June to September 2017 having the following objectives: to obtain empirical data from local groundwater users and climate change/groundwater experts in Ghana, to gather secondary data about climate change and adaptation strategies vis a vis groundwater resources in Ghana, to observe and map groundwater dependent livelihood activities. The data needed were categorised into two levels. The first category of data was to be collected at the local level comprising groundwater users at the catchment, local government officials and climate change and groundwater experts at the northern part of the country where the catchment is located. The other category of data was to be obtained from officials working with the central government and Non-Governmental Organisations whose work relate to climate change and groundwater in Ghana. The research ended on 30 September 2017 and Lydia was able to obtain data which represented about two thirds of the expected outcomes. The rest of the data is expected to be gathered in 2018 when the next field trip is scheduled.
