INOWAS co-organised an Open Space Workshop at the 8th WRHC 2017 in Hamburg
Catalin Stefan, head of Junior Research Group INOWAS, participated in the 8th Water Research Horizon Conference (WRHC) in Hamburg from 19 to 20 September 2017 and contributed with a presentation about managed aquifer recharge to an Open Space Workshop organised by the BGR on challenges for international groundwater research. The WRHC is organised annually by the Water Science Alliance e.V. and serves among others the interdisciplinary exchange among water sciences in Germany, the dialogue between scientific institutions in the field of water with federal ministries and national funding organisations such as BMBF, BMUB und DFG, and the common representation of German water sciences to other countries. This year’s eigth conference took place under the theme “Climate change impacts and rising adaptation and mitigation needs” and was organised in cooperation with the Climate Service Centre (GERICS). About 150 participants from universities and research institutions discussed with BMBF and DFG recent developments related to German funding for research funding in the field of water.
BGR facilitated an Open Space Workshop on the topic “Groundwater: From Research Challenges to Solutions” with contributions from the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the Centre for Advanced Water Research (CAWR) / TU Dresden represented by the INOWAS Group. In the context of the workshop, challenges for international research on groundwater were discussed, possible contributions to solutions from German water sciences developed and suggestions proposed for the support of respective cooperation measures.
