2nd International Conference "Women in Science without Borders" in Johannesburg
Our colleague Lydia Kwoyiga attended between 21-23 March 2018 the 2nd International Conference "Women in Science without Borders - Indaba 2018" organised by the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. As a three day conference, participants with diverse research and academic backgrounds whose interests cover Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics met on the premises of the University of Johannesburg. Paper presentations were blended with panel discussions. Policy makers, representatives of key research institutes and gender experts were invited to the conference to share with women scientists, issues that pertain to their careers and gender. Notable persons present were the South African Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mrs Naledi Mandisa Pandor and the brain child of the conference Professor Amal Amin. The paper presented by Lydia was entitled "Feasibility of implementing managed aquifer recharge (MAR) as part of efforts to addressing climate change impacts on groundwater recharge in Northern Ghana".
Before the conference, Lydia used the oportunity and visited the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Pretoria, exchanging ideas about her work with IWMI staff members (among them, Girma Ebrahim visited the INOWAS Group between October - December 2017 within the framework of the TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme for Scientists from sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa).
