Preparing our field works: installing the pumping system in the Elbe river in Pirna

Installing the pumping system in the Elbe river
The pumping system from the Elbe river to the institute is now finished. After getting all the necessary permits, a self-priming pump was installed in the river, which is approximately 130 m away from the storage tanks next to the MAR field test rapid infiltration basin (MAR-RIB). The installed system has the capacity of pumping up to 4 000 L/h. River water will be available to be poured in the MAR-RIB, which will demand up to 1 000 L per day. Analysis of the filter capacity of the infiltration unit, so as the spatial and temporal evolution of the clogging effect will be performed under different flow scenarios. During a possible flood event of the Elbe river, the system will be disconnected due to security reasons. Similarly, there will be a shutdown of the system, if the water level decreases substantially during the dry period.
