INOWAS won the TUD Sustainable Science Slam during the United Nations Day 2016
Under the topic “Discovering Sustainability: 17 Goals for a Better World” UN Day was celebrated on October 28, 2016 in Dresden. The extensive programme consisted of exhibitions, lectures, workshops and discussions. Another part of the programme was the TU Sustainable Science Slam, a competition of four scientists explaining their research topic in three minutes in an entertaining way to the public. So the Indian Trefftz-Professor Dr. Madhuri Wuppulluri talked about “Regenerative Solar Cooling Systems”, Dr. Thilo Becker, traffic ecologist, explained “Planning bike traffic using GPS Data”, Dr. Maria Krautz enlightened “Pollination as service task from the ecosystem” using examples from Western Africa and Claudia Schönekerl from the Junior Research Group INOWAS illuminated the „Fascination of the underground water world“. Moderation of the Science Slam was done by Dr. Anna Görner, Leader of the TUD “Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management”. All contributors did a great job and enjoyed their participation; the winner of the competition was Claudia Schönekerl getting the maximum applause from the audience. The organisers were UNU-FLORES, together with the City of Dresden, the German United Nations Society – for Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia e.V. (DGVN), Technische Universität Dresden, UNICEF Working Group Dresden, Local Agenda 21 for Dresden e.V., Lions Club Dresden Agenda 21, and the World Trade Center.
