INOWAS team visiting the Instituto Mexicano de Technología del Aqua (IMTA)
A meeting between representatives of the INOWAS group and representatives of the Mexican Institute of Water Technology (IMTA) was organised in Juitepec, Morelos, on 27 June 2016 at the IMTA headquarters. The IMTA is the public research institute that addresses the national and regional challenges associated with water management in México and the Latin America. The Institute objectives are:
- Contribute to sustainable water management through knowledge, technology, human resources training and innovation.
- Create a high added value for the water sector institutions through knowledge, creation and adaptation of technologies and supply highly specialized technological services.
- Promote the development of science and technology of water, especially through preparation of highly trained specialist and graduates.
The institute has six major coordination areas: 1) Water quality, 2) Hydraulics, 3) Hydrology, 4) Irrigation and drainage, 5) Professional development and training and 6) Communication, participation and information. All the coordination areas are capable of working together in a single project or with their own projects on an independent way, depending on the objective and scope and of the project. One of the strengths of the institute is the dissemination and acceptance of the projects by the communities. The Groundwater Hydrology Sub-coordination is part of the Hydrology coordination. This Sub-coordination is currently developing a book about successful MAR schemes in México and expressed a strong interest in the MAR Portal develop by INOWAS/IGRAC. A case study from this book could be used as part of the Latin American MAR inventory.
