New Humboldt Research Fellow at the Chair of Transport Processes in Hydro Systems
Dr. Rui Zhu has been awarded a prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship. From January 1, 2026, he will be working for a two-year research stay at the Chair of Transport Processes in Hydro Systems at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. The fellowship is part of the Global Minds Initiative Germany.
During his stay in Dresden, Dr. Zhu will work with Prof. Bernhard Vowinckel to investigate the hydrodynamics and mixing in currents triggered by swarms of mesozooplankton - a process with significant implications for marine ecology and climate dynamics. The research project combines high-precision numerical simulations and theoretical modeling to investigate how the collective movement of tiny marine organisms contributes to the redistribution of oxygen, nutrients and carbon in the ocean.
