ENVIRONMENTAL NON-MIGRATION NETWORK
The ‘Environmental Non-Migration Network’ (EnNoMig Network) is a joint initiative of scientists from around the world to foster excellent science and science-based advice to society on environmental non-migration with the intention of relevance for a sustainable development.
Advancement of the knowledge on environmental non-migration and its availability for the society will foster (i) the development of tailored actions to support people in their independent decisions on environmental migration and non-migration and their capacities for environmental non-migration, and (ii) the understanding of prerequisites for people to stay put, if so desired, despite environmental stress.
To achieve this aim, the members of the Environmental Non-Migration Network (EnNoMig Network) carry out activities such as networking, education, as well as facilitating and undertaking scientific research including the support of early career scientists. The network is especially interested in informing the development of societal solutions.
Background
Significant attention in science and policy has been given to migration caused by environmental stress due to natural hazards, climate change, resource limitation, environmental degradation and alike. However, there are many people who choose not to migrate. This decision not to migrate, even in the face of environmental stress, has not been researched and is not well understood.
