Appointment of new professors at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences "Friedrich List"
Prof. Günther Prokop, Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences "Friedrich List", welcomed three new colleagues, Prof. Atzler, Prof. Keßler and Prof. Erhard, to our faculty on 25 February on behalf of all professors and staff. They have followed the call of the Technical University and will start their work at the faculty on March 1, 2019.
Professor Dr.-Ing. Frank Atzler will take over the Chair of Combustion Engines and Drive Technology at the Institute of Automobile Engineering Dresden IAD as successor to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Zellbeck, who held the Chair of Combustion Engines until 2017. With the extended dedication to drive technology, the focus of research and teaching will no longer be on internal combustion engines alone, but the diverse spectrum of drive technologies will increasingly determine the future work and orientation of the professorship. After completing his doctorate at the University of Leeds (UK), Prof. Atzler worked for Continental AG in Regensburg, before in 2016 he followed the call of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau and taught and researched in the field of combustion engines and combustion engine design at the Faculty of Automobile Engineering.
Professor Dr.-Ing. Christoph Keßler holds the endowed professorship for helicopter technology at the Institute of Logistics and Aviation newly established by the University of Dresden and the German Aerospace Center DLR. After working for ZF Luftfahrttechnik GmbH in Kassel and Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg, among others, he has worked for over ten years at the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V.) at the Institute of Flight Systems Technology. As Deputy Director, he has been responsible for research and development work at the Institute since 2012.
Professor Dr.-Ing. Christoph Erhard was appointed Honorary Professor for Vehicle Acoustics at the Institute of Automobile Engineering IAD. In this function, he will continue his long-standing cooperation with the Chair of Automobile Engineering, especially in teaching in the field of application-oriented commercial vehicles and vehicle acoustics.
Prof. Erhard received his doctorate from the Institute of Fluid Dynamics & Fluid Acoustics at the University of Kaiserslautern. After various professional positions, including Kässbohrer SETRA BUS and Mercedes-Benz Trucks, he has been Senior Innovation Manager at AMFD Auto Mobil Forschung Dresden GmbH since 2018.
Prof. Prokop is extremely pleased that the faculty has succeeded in gaining Professors Atzler, Keßler and Erhard who are proven and recognized scientists and who bring along very interesting new approaches and impulses for successful teaching and research. This is an essential foundation for the faculty's changing orientation by strengthening basic and applied research for the mobility of the future through new research fields and methods.
