Dr. Vollebregt's research focuses on the extension of the renowned wheel-rail contact model CONTACT: the physics involved in interfacial processes, contact geometry, numerical analysis and solver techniques, and a sound software implementation.
Dr. Vollebregt studied Applied Mathematics at Delft University of Technology, graduating with Prof. Kalker on new algorithms for the CONTACT software, and conducting PhD research on algorithms for coastal engineering. In 1996, he co-founded the company VORtech, providing services regarding scientific computing software. Since 2008, Dr. Vollebregt shifted his attention back to contact mechanics. Key contributions concern the analysis of conformal contacts, the integration of contact mechanics in multibody simulation, and the extension of CONTACT towards third body layers. Dr. Vollebregt separated from VORtech in 2020, continuing as a self-employed, independent researcher in the company Vtech CMCC. The software is provided commercially via www.cmcc.nl and in open-source form at www.github.com/eve70a/CONTACT.
