Prof. Liu Shares Research Insights at FRA 2026 Workshop and Visits Leading U.S. Rail Research Institutions
Prof. Binbin Liu was invited by the Volpe Center of the U.S. Department of Transportation to present at the FRA Workshop on Advancing VTI Simulation Capabilities for Enhanced Railroad Safety and Performance, held on September 1–2, 2026, at the Transportation Technology Center (TTC) in Pueblo, Colorado.
In his presentation, “Gaps Between Simulation and Experiment in Wheel–Rail Contact Studies,” he shared insights into the challenges of bridging simulation and experimental research in wheel–rail contact. The workshop also featured demonstrations and tours of TTC’s world-class research facilities, including the Rail Dynamics Laboratory and Railroad Test Track.
During his visit to the United States, Prof. Liu also visited the MxV Rail laboratories and the Center for Vehicle Systems and Safety at Virginia Tech. He met with researchers at both institutions to exchange expertise and explore opportunities for future collaboration in rail vehicle technologies and transportation research.
These visits further strengthened the Chair’s international research connections and created new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange with leading U.S. research institutions.
