MINT EC Camp 2026
From September 28 to October 1, 2026, the MINT-EC Camp Week took place at the faculty. More than 20 high school students from various schools attended one of the three workshops offered in the fields of aviation, road, and rail.
The Chair of Digital Rail Systems was responsible for organizing and conducting the “Rail” workshop. Over the course of two days, six highly motivated students and one supervisor learned what railway safety systems are, how they work, how they have evolved over time, and what safety improvements these new developments bring. Using the PRESIM simulator, which replicates a dispatcher’s workstation, in conjunction with the ZuSi simulator, which simulates a train operator’s workstation, the students took control of train operations. They experienced how a malfunction—such as a defective switch—can trigger a chain reaction throughout the entire network. On the third day, the students presented the key points on a poster they had created themselves and won the competition against the presentations from the other two workshops.
For the project, it was necessary to convey complex content in a simplified form using minimal technical jargon. For experts, this is a valuable exercise in making academic knowledge accessible to a broad public.
