Digital twin

Numerical simulations using CAD, FEM, DEM and MBS software as well as co-simulations can be carried out in the Digital Twin research workshop at the Chair of Railway Track Engineering. Typical applications are strength verifications and design optimization of superstructure components and systems, contact analyses between sleepers, ballast stones and substructure layers as well as simulation of wheel-rail contact and dynamic vehicle-track interaction. An extensive model database is continuously updated. All models are validated by laboratory and track measurements. The BIM methodology is being driven forward in order to innovatively link digital data in various infrastructure models.
