Analysis of road safety at turbo roundabouts in drone videos with DataFromSky

In cooperation with the Ruhr University Bochum, the Chair of Integrated Transport Planning and Road Traffic Engineering is investigating infrastructural and operational influences on road safety and road user's perception of safety at turbo roundabouts. For this purpose, most existing turbo roundabouts in Germany are being comprehensively documented and analysed regarding accidents, and surveys of road users are being conducted.

Another focus of the research project is an in-depth behavioural and conflict analysis over longer periods of time at selected turbo roundabouts. They are carried out using drones and the DataFromSky service (Link). The trajectories of road users are used to analyse traffic volumes, speeds, time gaps, near-accidents as well as irregular and safety-relevant behaviour.
