Climate Check - a municipal assessment tool for transport measures
The need for climate action in the transport sector remains high. Many municipalities and some regions have already developed transport development plans, complemented by energy, climate protection, and sustainability strategies, together with corresponding action plans. Nevertheless, achieving overarching climate objectives remains a major challenge despite these planning frameworks.
The "Climate Check" project, funded by the D-A-CH professional associations FGSV, VSS, and FSV, addresses this challenge. It supports municipalities and regions in systematically assessing their transport situation as well as existing strategies, programmes, plans, and measures with regard to their contribution to climate change mitigation and climate adaptation, while identifying opportunities to enhance their effectiveness.
To this end, the project is developing a practical guideline and an accompanying assessment tool. Together, they provide a consistent framework for evaluating transport-related measures in terms of their contribution to climate change mitigation and their impacts on climate adaptation.
As the "Climate Check" is primarily intended for use by representatives of municipalities and regions, both the guideline and the assessment tool are being designed to be practice-oriented, user-friendly, and easy to apply.
