ee2 at the AquaSummit 2026 and SOffie Project Meeting on Heligoland
From 16 to 18 September 2026, Heligoland became a meeting point for researchers, industry representatives, and practitioners working on the future of offshore energy. TU Dresden was represented in two capacities: at the AquaSummit 2026 organised by AquaVentus and at the parallel project meeting of the research project SOffie – System Integration of Offshore Wind Energy.
More than 65 participants from over 42 companies and organisations came together on the North Sea island to discuss current developments in offshore wind energy, hydrogen production, and future integrated energy systems. A particular focus was placed on how offshore wind energy can be efficiently integrated into the energy system of the future, as well as on the infrastructure and regulatory frameworks required to achieve this.
The scientific programme kicked off on 16 September with a joint workshop involving SOffie and the international research programme North Sea Energy 6 (NSE6). The workshop brought together national and international perspectives on the system integration of offshore wind energy and hydrogen, while also providing an opportunity to discuss current work and the next steps within the SOffie project.
The following day, TU Dresden presented the SOffie project at the AquaSummit 2026 to a broad audience of experts. In addition to SOffie, the programme featured projects and studies on topics including offshore hydrogen production, the coordinated planning of electricity and hydrogen infrastructure, and the scaling-up of offshore sector coupling.
The meeting on Heligoland provided a valuable opportunity to connect scientific research questions directly with the perspectives of industry, grid and infrastructure operators, and other stakeholders in the offshore hydrogen sector. The intensive exchange provided important input for the further development of the SOffie project and for research into integrating offshore wind energy into a resilient and efficient future energy system.
