Market Integration of Onshore Wind Energy in Germany: Dissertation of Hannes Hobbie now available as Open Access Online Publication
Achieving Germany's ambitious decarbonization goals requires a massive expansion of onshore wind energy. However, project developers are increasingly facing land use conflicts and self-cannibalization effects.
In his dissertation
Market Integration of Onshore Wind Energy in Germany
Hannes Hobbie shows, how the future expansion of onshore wind energy in Germany could look like, taking into account social, environmental, and economic constraints. Future market scenarios are evaluated for their effects on the economic efficiency of market integration using a fundamental decomposed market model. The modelling is accompanied by numerous examples of applying Benders decomposition and GAMS-based solution strategies to accelerate long-term models.
The dissertation results indicate a decreasing profitability of onshore wind energy in Germany, while southern Germany could make a larger contribution to wind energy expansion.
The dissertation is now also available as an Open Access online publication on the Qucosa document and publication server: https://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:bsz:14-qucosa2-902715
