Report Enerday 2022 - 16th International Conference on Energy Economics and Technology
On September 30, 2022, the Chair of Energy Economics hosted the “ENERDAY – 16th International Conference on Energy Economics and Technology”. After last year's conference had to take place virtually, this year about 100 participants from research and industry were looking forward to nearly 50 presentations on the topic "Legacy assets and infrastructures in the energy system transformation - Out with the old, in with the new?
Looking back at the current developments in the pipeline infrastructure of natural gas in Europe, but also in energy supply and provision, this year's topic is more relevant than ever and, due to the high level of participation from industry and practice, shows how relevant the associated challenges are for the future of the energy system.
This year's keynote speeches set a suitable framework for the topic. In the beginning, Martin Klein from 50 Hertz Transmission GmbH focused on the necessity of energy scenarios for grid operators and showed the current status of the grid development plan and its development. Two renowned experts from US universities introduced an international perspective: In the second keynote, Prof. Steven A. Gabriel of the University of Maryland and NTNU Trondheim addressed flexibilities in the infrastructure market. Prof. Ramteen Sioshansi of Ohio State University rounded off the keynote presentations with his contribution on technical development paths and their economic challenge for the decarbonization of the energy system.
In addition to established scientists, Enerday offers young scientists the opportunity to present their research. The organizers award excellent presentations with the Best paper presentation award for outstanding presentations with a high scientific level. The prize has been awarded since 2015 and has been jointly sponsored by enerCONNECT e.V. and the Gesellschaft für Energiewirtschaft und Energiepolitik (GEE) since 2018. This year's award winners are:
- Dana Kirchem (DIW Berlin): Power sector effects of different supply chains for green hydrogen in Germany.
- Martin Lieberwirth (TU Dresden): Decarbonizing the industry sector and its effects on electricity transmission grid operation - implications from a model based analysis for Germany
Also awarded by enerCONNECT e.V. was the enerWARD for the best final thesis in the year 2021 at the Chair of Energy Economics at TU Dresden. In addition to prize money, the winners were given the opportunity to present their work at ENERDAY. Awarded this year were:
- Alexander Michael Floren: Extension of Flow Based Market Coupling to the Core Region - An Analysis
- Malte Karitzky: Tenant Electricity in Germany - An Empirical Investigation to Identify and Evaluate Administrative Hurdles in the Implementation of Photovoltaic Projects
The Chair of Energy Economics would like to thank the numerous participants and the interesting presentations and discussions. Special thanks go to the keynote speakers and the sponsors 50Hertz Transmission GmbH and Sachsenenergie for the successful conference and support.
