From August 29 to September 1, 2023, the University of Hamburg hosted the annual meeting of the German Society for Operations Research. The event attracted over 700 participants from around the world and provided an outstanding opportunity for international scientific exchange on a wide range of topics in the field of Operations Research.
Themed "Decision Support & Choice-Based Analytics for a Disruptive World", the conference focused on developing decision support tools for businesses and regulators in the face of current global crises and challenges.
As head of the GOR working group "energy and environment" (link), Prof. Dominik Möst organized the eponymous stream "energy and environment" with a total of 12 sessions. Our Chair was also represented with scientific input through two talks: Jannis Eichenberg (EE2) and Tizian Schug (ORiS) gave an insight into their research on Congestion management in power grids - An approach based on flexibility premiums. Hannes Hobbie (EE2) presented recent findings from his work on Design solutions for regional flexibility markets with strategically acting aggregators. Both papers deal with topics on flexibility provision of sector coupling technologies for congestion management with a special focus on actor behavior and provided exciting impulses in the session on actor behavior and control mechanisms in the energy industry jointly organized by Prof. Fischer (ORiS) and Hannes Hobbie - a cooperation that arose within the framework of the BMWK-funded research project EffiziEntEE (link).
