Background of the Project
New innovative technologies and processes in the health sector are becoming more and more important. These innovations offer not only the potential to increase life expectation and quality thus the advantages of patients, but also the possibility to more efficiently shape the entire health system. However, these advantages from innovative procedures are confronted with limiting fact that new medical technologies are allegedly the largest cost-pusher and causes for reising health expenditures in the industrial countries. In order to cope with the resulting strategic challenges for hostpitals and medical technology companies, efficient managing of technology is indispensible. In this case, it is not only the Saxon health economy that is faced with enormous challenges. In addition to the inadequate practical application, the research field for technology management in healthcare has also found little attention up until now on the academic side, in spite of the evident relevance. In various disciplines, there already exist promising, individual starting points, though it lacks a systematic approach.
Objective of the Project
The goal of the junior research group InnoTech4Health is to research more closely the process of technology management in hospitals and product development in medical technology companies and to optimize through appropriate attention to the new strategic demands. Through connecting competencies from different fields and educating the appropriate personnel, the need for interdisciplinary experts, above all for the Saxon healthcare system, will be addressed.
Research Approaches
As part of cross-disciplinary, academic work from junior researchers, the creation, implementation, and usage of technology will be analyzed in order to deduce concrete recommendations for optimizing the whole process. InnoTech4Health can thus play a part in increasing the potential for success of medical technology companies and the efficiency of healthcare providers. The theoretical focus will thereby be predominantly placed on approaches to low end and multi stakeholder innovation and with consideration towards sustainability.
The methodological and contentual focus will be defined through interdisciplinary cooperation between scientific fields, like business, economy, engineering, medicine, and architecture. Additional networking will occur through the inclusion of numerous academic institutions, hospitals, and medical technology companies with the country and abroad.
