Completion of the first project phase with WITRON

On 11.12.2019 the first phase of our route planning project with WITRON Logistik + Informatik GmbH was completed. At a final presentation at the headquarters in Parkstein the results of the first phase and the further procedure was discussed.
The aim of the project is to develop an algorithmic solution for the creation of route plans to support WITRON customers in the planning process. In the context of the planning problem at WITRON, complex transport tariffs and various practical restrictions have to be considered, including time window and three-dimensional loading restrictions. The project work is carried out in close cooperation of both partners: To solve the packing problem a proven loading optimization tool from WITRON is used, the algorithmic part for the route planning logic is developed by the chair.
In the first phase, many tour planning requirements could already be implemented. In the further course of the project, the algorithm is to be improved and supplemented by additional requirements through feedback from practice.
In the new year, the project will start the second phase. The aim is to improve the existing algorithm in terms of runtime and solution quality and to add an innovative Pack-First Route-Second approach.
