Invitation to visit the BMW Foreign Supply Center in Leipzig
At the invitation of Thomas Fahnauer (Head Operations Manager), the Industrial Management team visited the BMW-Foreign Supply Center (AVZ) in Leipzig on August 21, 2024. The AVZ mainly supplies components for assembly at BMW plants in China, Mexico, and South Africa. The incoming materials and components can range from simple screws to complete engines and hazardous goods. They are transshipped at the site into new logistics units sent to the BMW plants. Every day, up to one hundred 40-foot containers are prepared for shipment by sea and air freight at the Leipzig site.
The chair team discussed various logistical challenges and optimization problems with a team around Thomas Fahnauer - to be continued.
