ExplAIn-TrAIn-Plan Project Meeting in Vienna
As part of the ExplAIn-TrAIn-Plan research project, the chair visited their project partners at the University of Vienna, dwh GmbH, ÖBB and TU Wien. The meeting provided an opportunity to present recent research findings and discuss heterogeneous rolling stock scheduling, its environmental implications, and approaches to shift and workforce scheduling.
Paul Päprer demonstrated how different objective functions in heterogeneous rolling stock scheduling can achieve a geographical separation of the deployment of different subtypes within a vehicle class. Martin Scheffler presented a rotating workforce approach to train driver scheduling. Both presentations sparked fruitful discussions on methodological questions and practical applications.
The meeting was complemented by a social programme featuring a visit to the Prater and Austrian cuisine, offering time for informal conversations beyond the project.
We thank our project partners in Vienna for their hospitality, stimulating discussions and excellent organisation!
