Conference visits in Vienna and Passau
In recent weeks, the chair's team attended two conferences to present their own research findings and discuss them with experts from the field of Operations Research.
The first to go was Martin Scheffler at the IFORS conference in Vienna, held from July 12-17. The 24th conference of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) is one of the most important international conferences in the field of Operations Research, bringing together researchers and practitioners from around the world. Under the theme "Decision Support for a Sustainable World," the conference focused on current developments and applications in Operations Research, Management Science, and Analytics. In collaboration with Jing Shan from ETH Zurich, initial results were generated for a study on intercontinental rail transport from Asia to Europe under consideration of uncertainties, which Martin presented under the title "Intercontinental service network design problem in rail freight transportation with uncertainties."
In addition, our colleague Benedikt Zipfel attended this year's OR 2026 conference in Passau from September 1-4. The OR is the largest conference in the fields of Operations Research, Management Science, Data Science, and Analytics in the German-speaking world, held annually by the German Operations Research Society (GOR), the Austrian Society for Operations Research (ÖGOR), and the Swiss Operations Research Society (SVOR/ASRO). This year, Benedikt presented his joint research with Florian Linß on integrated route and scheduling planning in additive manufacturing, titled "Build on Track: Combining Routing and Scheduling Decisions for Additive Manufacturing."
