Courses in the 2026–2027 Winter Semester
The following courses will be offered by the Chair of Industrial Management during the 2026–2027 winter semester. Registration in OPAL begins on October 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. For more details, click on the name of the respective course or check the corresponding OPAL course pages.
Lectures:
-
Einführung in die Produktion: This course provides knowledge of production and cost theory and lays the theoretical foundations for analyzing production processes and cost changes. You will receive the course materials at the start of the semester after successfully registering via OPAL.
-
Inventory Management: This English-language course focuses on the economic analysis of industrial production, reprocessing, and transfer processes. Based primarily on cost-oriented inventory models, recommendations are derived for managing the flow of goods as efficiently as possible. You will receive the course materials after enrolling via OPAL at the start of the semester.
-
Strategisches Produktionsmanagement: This course is dedicated to the strategic design of programs, potential, and processes. In addition to some fundamentals of strategic management, the course covers strategic development planning, site selection, layout planning, and the configuration of flow production systems. You will receive the course materials at the start of the semester after registering via OPAL .
-
Simulation und Modellierung: This course covers the fundamentals of modeling and conducting simulation studies. Particular emphasis is placed on discrete-event simulation, with the goal of modeling queuing systems using appropriate software and analyzing or optimizing them with the help of simulation methods. You will receive the course materials at the beginning of the semester after registering via OPAL .
Seminars:
-
Aktuelle Forschungsfragen des IM and Aktuelle Forschungsfragen des OR: As part of this course, you will write a 25-page seminar paper on a selected topic in Industrial Management or Operations Research and conclude by presenting your findings in a presentation. Interested students should register via OPAL between October 1 and October 14, 2026 (including submission of a transcript). The kick-off session will take place on October 16 , 2026 , at 10:30 a.m. in room HÜL N509.
- Bachelor’s Seminar: This module and the 20-page seminar paper on topics in industrial management serve as preparation for writing a bachelor’s thesis. Interested students should register in OPAL between October 1 and October 14, 25 (including submission of a transcript). The kick-off session will take place on October 16 , 26 , at 10:30 a.m. in room HÜL N509 .
- WPA Seminar: In this seminar, you will learn about the requirements for an academic paper and apply the knowledge you have acquired in a 10-page seminar paper. Placement in the seminar is handled centrally by the faculty. You can register in OPAL by October 16, 2025, and indicate your preferred areas of focus via a survey there. Students assigned to our department will begin with a kick-off session on October 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., following the allocation process.
- WPA Project: Excel—In this seminar, you will learn to use Microsoft Excel through interactive exercises on a computer. The course covers topics ranging from the basics to the use of the Excel Solver for solving mathematical optimization problems. Registration (for all WPA projects) takes place centrally in OPAL from September 16 to October 16, 2026. The project will be conducted digitally.
- Tools and Applications of the IM: This course teaches students how to prepare scientific papers using LaTeX. It also provides an introduction to the Gurobi software, which can be used to solve mathematical optimization problems. Registration is available via OPAL.
- Scientific Applications with R: This course focuses on the programming language R, an open-source software for (statistical) data analysis and graphics. In addition to the basics and structure of the language, the course will focus in particular on its application in scientific work. Registration is available via OPAL.
