New publication in Omega: Optimization approaches for complex agricultural planning
Our team from the Chair of Industrial Management at TU Dresden has published an article in the journal Omega together with Mike Hewitt from Loyola University Chicago. With the participation of Florian Linß, Udo Buscher, and our former colleague Janis S. Neufeld, a new optimization approach for complex planning problems in the agricultural sector was developed. The study is dedicated to the question of how limited resources in agricultural research environments, such as greenhouses or field experiments, can be scheduled to maximize the number of orders accepted and minimize delays.
In a comprehensive computational study, it was demonstrated that the available machine capacity has a greater impact on the results than the length of the time window between the order release and due date. Additionally, even a slight reduction in the number of accepted orders can result in significantly shorter delays.
