Review PATAT Conference 2022 in Leuven (Belgium)
The 13th " International Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling " (PATAT 2022) was held in Leuven (Belgium) from August 30 to September 02. At the conference, organized by KU Leuven, about 90 researchers exchanged insights in the field of timetabling in the context of educational institutions, sport events, shift schedules and other related disciplines. In addition to 50 technical presentations, 4 keynotes provided exciting insights into the history of timetabling and current research priorities.
At the conference, our colleague Michael Hölscher presented an exact approach to solving the timetabling problem at Dresden University School.
There, the children do not learn the traditional school subjects in class, but come together in small, topic-related project groups that exist for a few weeks. The sub-problems of project group composition, personnel and room planning were considered in an integrated way and solved with the help of a mathematical model.
