Attending the VHB ProDok Course “Advanced Topics in Mathematical Programming” in Hamburg
From 10 to 13 February, Henrik Weimann, research associate at our chair, took part in the VHB ProDok course “Advanced Topics in Mathematical Programming.” The course was organized by Prof. Dr. Malte Fliedner (Institute of Operations Management) at the University of Hamburg Business School.
The course brought together doctoral researchers in business administration and related fields who wanted to deepen their understanding of modeling complex decision-making problems. The four-day course focused on advanced methods in mathematical optimization, ranging from the analysis and strengthening of model formulations to relaxation and aggregation techniques and decomposition methods. Efficient algorithms for specific problem classes and the use of heuristic solution approaches were discussed as well.
Alongside the theoretical content, practical applications and academic exchange played an important role. Participants from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland used the days in Hamburg to present their own projects and to apply the approaches introduced in the course directly to their research.
Despite the North German winter weather, there was also time beyond the sessions on campus to explore Hamburg and get to know one another better - for example, during shared dinners where discussions continued in an informal setting. Many thanks to the organizers for the smooth coordination and the welcoming course atmosphere.
