Please submit a current transcript of records and a CV, stating the desired topic, to the responsible member of staff at our professorship under the tab Contact.
The constantly updated list of advertised topics for a bachelor thesis at our professorship can be found here.
You are also welcome to apply for a supervision position at our professorship with your own topic proposal. You can find all the information you need under the tab Own topic and exposé.
Registration
According to the Prüfungsordnung (§ 25 PO) you are only allowed to register a bachelor thesis as far as you have acquired the necessary credits from completed modules in your specialist field. Therefore, the subjects are awarded with reservation. If you plan to purchase this score by April 1 of the particular year, you can therefore apply to us (to be confirmed) for the bachelor thesis. If you do not reach the required score, contrary to expectations, you can again apply to us in the next year.
There is no centralised application process with fixed application deadlines for the allocation of supervision places for Master's and diploma theses. It is therefore possible to apply at any time.
Application documents
Please submit a current transcript of records from HISQIS and a curriculum vitae in tabular form, stating the desired topic, to the responsible member of staff at our professorship under the tab Contact.
Topics advertised by our professorship
- Topic 1: Political capital in top management: An empirical analysis of the relationship between political capital and executive compensation
Further information on the call for proposals can be found here: Politisches Kapital und Managementvergütung
Application with your own topic
You are also welcome to apply for a supervision position at our professorship with your own topic proposal. You can find all the information you need under the tab Own topic and exposé.
You can apply for a supervision place at our professorship with your own topics for Bachelor's, Master's and Diploma theses. Your own topic suggestions should be related to management accounting and control. We are also happy to supervise theses in cooperation with a practice partner.
If you are applying with your own topic, please submit a current transcript of records from HISQIS, a CV (max. 2 pages) and a exposé. The exposé should clearly state the objective of the thesis and its relation to Management Accounting. Please send the application documents and the exposé to the responsible member of staff at our professorship under the tab Contact.
You can structure the exposé as follows:
- Starting point and motivation: Why is your proposed topic interesting? What is the initial situation in the partner company?
- Objective of the thesis: What research gap is being filled? What is the goal of the partner company?
- Research question or hypotheses: What scientific question do you want to answer or what hypotheses (for empirical work) will you test? What is the research question? The research questions and hypotheses should be derived from the objective of the thesis.
- Planned methodology: Will your thesis be a literature work, a conceptual work, an empirical work, or a model-theoretical work? Which approach do you plan?
- Literature: What literature will your thesis draw on? You should try to point out some papers from reputable journals that deal with your topic. You can determine the reputation of a journal by various rankings, for example the VHB ranking.
The exposé should usually contain about three pages.
