Sonja Olbing Represents the Chair at ICIS 2025
The International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2025 will take place from December 14th to December 17th, 2025, in Nashville, USA. ICIS is the leading international conference in the IS field, bringing together thousands of scholars from around the world to present their latest findings and exchange ideas on emerging developments in IS research and practice.
The Chair of Organization and Management will be represented by Sonja Olbing, whose joint work with Dr. Matthias Sinnemann (University of Münster) was accepted for presentation at ICIS 2025 and publication in the conference proceedings.
The study titled “Digital nomads: A self-determination perspective” examines digital nomadism as a form of extreme IS use. Drawing on more than 75,000 social media posts from the r/digitalnomad subreddit, it employs topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and time series analysis to uncover key themes and emotions shaping the digital nomad lifestyle. Grounded in self-determination theory, the research provides new insights into the role of autonomy, competence, and relatedness in digital nomads’ work and life experiences, offering valuable implications for both academia and practice.
