A general prerequisite for theses is a major in International Monetary Economics during your studies. English language skills are necessary to comprehend the relevant literature.
To register for a Bachelor's and Master's thesis, please submit the completed and signed form from the examination office.

Bachelor thesis
For suggested topics please click here. You have 4 months to complete your bachelor thesis, starting with the date of the registration. If you are interested, please apply by e-mail to Prof. Eichler, including the topic, a summary of grades, a short CV and a list of courses taken in International Monetary Economics. After the assignment of a topic, the registration of the thesis has to be submitted within 3 working days.
Master thesis

Preferably, a master thesis is based on your own econometric analysis of a self-compiled data set. Please inform yourself in advance about the availability of data on your topic.
To apply for a Master's thesis, please submit an exposé (a maximum of 6 pages) on a topic of your own choice as well as a grade overview, a short CV and a list of courses taken in International Monetary Economics via E-Mail to Prof. Dr. Eichler.
The exposé must include a specific research question about a relevant problem. Identify the relevant basic literature and outline a method to answer the research question (preferably your own empirical analysis, theoretical analysis, case studies, literature-based economic policy analysis, etc. are also possible).
Prerequisite for the registration of the master thesis is the registration for and participation in the research seminar.
The processing time of master theses is 4 months from the registration of the master thesis.
Research Seminar
Master students present the current state of their master thesis project in the research seminar and obtain feedback on their work. Completion of the research seminar is mandatory to achieve the Master’s degree.
Two presentations will be delivered to complete the research seminar:
Presentation 1 gives a brief outlook of the research question, state of the literature, relevance of the topic, data and research method planned to be employed in the master thesis. Presentation time is 10 to 15 minutes. After presentation 1, you register the master thesis with the examination office. You have 4 months to deliver the master thesis.
Presentation 2 gives a detailed overview of the current state of the master thesis. Presentation 2 shall be delivered around 6 weeks before completion of the thesis. Presentation 2 covers the thesis’ position within the literature, the data and econometric models applied, results and (policy) conclusions. Presentation time is 20 to 30 minutes.
