General Information
Bachelor´s Theses
are requested to submit an own proposal that is oriented towards the research and teaching focus of the professorship. Alternatively, they can apply for a topic from the list of topics.
Please send your electronic application with the topic proposal and supervisor request as well as the current grade overview to the office.
The supervisor will decide on the topic assignment and inform you about the acceptance of the topic. Please note the registration and submission formalities
Master´s Theses
Prerequisite for writing a master´s thesis at the is the attendance of at least one master course offered by the Chair of International Economics.
It should be thematically oriented towards the teaching and research topics of the Chair of International Economics list of topics.
Please send your rough topic proposal, your supervision preference and your current grade transcript to the office.
We will then have one or more discussions with you with the aim of concretizing the research question and methodology. The result leads to a two or three-page exposé to be prepared by you, which helps you to structure your thoughts and helps us to assess your work plan in terms of feasibility and ambition.
After the assessment of the exposé, the topic will be assigned. Please note the registration and submission formalities.

The research seminar is designed for master students who write their thesis at the chair of International Economics. In order to earn 10 credits regular attendance in the seminar and two presentations are required.
The examination, worth 10 credits, consists on the one hand of regular participation in the seminar and on the other hand of two presentations.
- The first presentation (30 percent of the seminar grade) comprises a ten-minute presentation and subsequent discussion. In addition to the motivation and the central question of the master's thesis, the preliminary outline as well as the underlying literature (plus data basis in the case of empirical work) should be presented.
- The second presentation (70 percent of the seminar grade) will take place approximately six weeks before the submission of the master's thesis and will comprise a twenty-minute presentation and subsequent discussion. In addition to the central research question and outline, the methodology and results of the master's thesis should be presented.
The research seminar runs parallel to the work on the master's thesis - usually in the 4th semester and takes place irregularly.

Students in the PIE program register in SELMA for " WW-MA-PIE-RSD Research Design".
* For ZIS students, successful participation in the IWB research seminar (= MA-IB-FD Research Design) is required for writing the Master's thesis. ZIS students do not receive grades for the research seminar. The module is assessed as "passed" or "failed" (5 CP).
