Up the hills: Looking back on the "ReACt" workshop in Obergurgl (Austria)
From October 13th to 15th, the professors and doctoral students went up the hills to the „Universitätszentrum Obergurgl" of the University of Innsbruck in the context of the "ReACt" workshop as part of the project ReACt by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Remus. The project "ReACt“ aims at Understanding Gig Workers Resistance to Algorithmic Control (AC). Among the participants were also the project members of the DFG project "AlgoWork", which aims at exploring the conceptual meaning of AC and its implications for workers - which resulted in new synergies between the two thematically similar projects.
The PhD students from the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Technical University of Dresden and the University of Innsbruck presented their current research on algoactivism, resistance to algorithmic control, scale development for algorithmic control and algorithmic management on the well-being of delivery drivers in a pine wood atmosphere. Not only novel research methods were shared, but also new ideas for existing and future research projects were collected. The joint hike at an altitude of over 2000m was literally a highlight to stimulate the creative mind. We look forward to further exciting projects, ideas and continued exchange.
