Dr. Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann has been the Alderwoman for Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Housing in the state capital of Dresden since 1 October 2015. In this role, she has political responsibility for the Social Welfare Office, the Office for Health and Prevention, the Dresden Municipal Hospital and the Veterinary and Food Inspection Office. She is also Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Job Center, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of the municipal companies Cultus gGmbH and WiD Wohnen in Dresden GmbH & Co. KG, Chairwoman of the municipal social foundation and a member of committees at municipal and state level. Dr. Kaufmann is also involved in specialist political groups and networks throughout Germany. For example, she is deputy chairwoman of the Committee for Social Affairs, Youth and Family of the German Association of Cities and is involved in the executive committee of the German Association for Public and Private Welfare.
Dr. Kaufmann, born in 1976, completed her doctorate in geography at Technische Universität Dresden in 2002, as well as research and teaching positions at Technische Universität Dresden and the Leibniz-Institut für Regionalentwicklung und Strukturplanung Erkner at the Technische Universität Berlin in 2012. In her dissertation, she focuses on the complete sale of municipal residential property in West German cities to international investors.
Dr. Kaufmann describes the sustainable development of social spaces as a matter close to her heart, which she also brings to the Centre for Demography and Diversity: "It's about shaping social cohesion in processes of demographic change in the best possible way. Social justice, equal treatment and anti-discrimination play an important role in this. Current and future generations should find the best opportunities for participation and sustainable prospects for life, living and working in their social environment throughout their lives."
