The "Genetic Scissors" Explained: CRISPR Roadshow Comes to Dresden
Public Event Series on Research, Development, and Applications of the CRISPR/Cas "Genetic Scissors"
From March 26 to 29, 2026, Dresden will host the "CRISPR Roadshow," an event designed to make science accessible and engaging for everyone. With a diverse program, the roadshow offers the opportunity to learn about the CRISPR/Cas method, engage in eye-level discussions with experts, and explore science in an entertaining way. Please note: All events will be held in German.
CRISPR/Cas, a molecular biology tool, is used for the precise modification of DNA sequences within genomes. The first scientific documentation regarding the development and application of this method was published in 2012 by a research group led by Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna. In 2020, both scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for this breakthrough.
The event is organized by BioWissKomm, a company specialized in science communication, in collaboration with TU Dresden, the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) at TU Dresden, and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG).
The program offers fascinating insights: in various talks, experts will present current highlights from research and industry, while interested participants can try out CRISPR technology firsthand in lab workshops. The event also features a cultural highlight—a theater performance that humorously brings lab life to the stage through dance, music, and pantomime. Finally, exchange and ethics take center stage at the Science Café and a public forum, where the opportunities and boundaries of this technology will be discussed together with the audience. Please note: All events will be held in German.
During the roadshow, an exhibition featuring numerous exhibits, posters, videos, and comics will be held at the COSMO Science Forum in the Dresden Kulturpalast, in cooperation with TU Dresden's "Bakteriopolis" project.
Thanks to funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and donations from Roche, DRESDEN-concept, the Association of Biology, Biosciences and Biomedicine in Germany (VBIO), the Genetics Society, and the Society for Developmental Biology, all events are free of charge.
