Title: “Exploring the human brain and gut with tissue models and single-cell technologies”
Abstract: Our group integrates advanced sequencing, imaging, bioengineering, and computational methods to study human-specific biology. Broadly we think about how cell fates and states are established during organ formation, how cells organise complex microenvironments, and how disrupted cell ecosystems lead to disease. Our approach is to recapitulate complex human tissue physiology in vitro, and use systematic, high-throughput, high-information content experiments to establish predictive models of tissue phenotypes. We also want to understand how human cells and tissues are different from other species? We explore these topics across multiple organ systems, and I will give an overview of our recent progress focusing on the brain, neural retina, and gut.
