Financing

In 2006, the CRTD was founded as a research centre of the German Research Foundation (DFG FZ 111) and in the same year was awarded the title of Cluster of Excellence (EXC 168) by the Federal Excellence Initiative. In 2012, the CRTD was confirmed as both a DFG Research Centre and a Cluster of Excellence for a further five years. In 2019 the CRTD was taken over by funding by TU Dresden and the Free State of Saxony.

Since the CRTD was founded, our group leaders have raised EUR 75.6 million in third-party funding (including a flat-rate programme fee). This included well-known funding formats such as Collaborative Research Centres (SFBs), Alexander von Humboldt Professors, ERC Starting and ERC Advanced Grants, Freigeist Fellowships, and Emmy Noether Grants.

The CRTD with its research focus is at the interface between biological basic research and clinical application. This is also reflected in the administrative assignment of the CRTD research groups. The CRTD is managed dual, partly by the TU Dresden and partly by the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus.
